Cu pastila x slabesti fara efort, y kilograme in z saptamani!"

Marriage is a thousand little things

Reblogged from here

"I do," is one of the shortest sentences in our English language and yet it carries a promise that's too vast to be measured by man.

It's not one thing we do, but a thousand little things that make up the sum of our vows.

Long-lasting love doesn't happen by accident. We don't find ourselves holding hands after twenty-five years with the one that we love by pure chance. Love is deliberate, it's intentional, it's purposeful, and in the end it's worth every minute that we give of ourselves to another.

Marriage is a thousand little things. It's giving up your right to be right in the heat of an argument. It's forgiving another when they let you down. It's loving someone enough to step down so they can shine. It's friendship. It's being a cheerleader and trusted confidant. It's a place of forgiveness that welcomes one home, and arms they can run to in the midst of a storm. It's grace.

It's giving of yourself tirelessly down paths you'd never imagine to travel. Through sickness and pain, poverty and loss, it's carrying the weight of another. It's being the smile they see in the morning, and the body they hold close at night. It's pure love. It's standing together in the face of adversity. It's riding alongside each other in a battle that threatens to tear down your marriage and seeks to grab hold of your faith. It's strength under pressure.

It's listening to the heart of another and understanding their pain. It's offering words of encouragement when they need it most. It's walking hand-in-hand in the park, and a gentle kiss in the pouring rain. It's laughing together.

It's endless compassion.

Marriage is ordained by an almighty God, and when we live out our vows according to His incredible wisdom and grace...it never fails.

You are loved by an almighty God,

This is how you spell love to your spouse

A couple of weeks ago, Gail and I had the privilege of attending the Love and Respect Conference in Dallas. It started on Friday evening and ended Saturday afternoon. Emerson and his wife, Sarah, taught it. They are both excellent communicators.
Although we have read numerous books on marriage and attended many seminars, this one was truly unique. In fact, it is probably the most helpful one we have ever experienced.

In the book (as well as the seminar), Emerson quotes a paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 7:28: “If you marry, you have not sinned, but you will have trouble.” Unlike Hollywood, the Bible is very realistic. Marriage is difficult, in large part because men and women are so different.
Emerson explains “The Crazy Cycle” in both the book and the conferecne. I found this particularly helpful: Without love, she reacts. Without respect, he reacts. The husband and the wife then unconsciously get trapped in this cycle of reacting to one another rather than giving to their partner what they need.
Emerson uses two acronyms to explain to men and women how to provide what their partner needs. To the men, he uses the acronym of C-O-U-P-L-E to remind them what their wives need. This is how you spell love to your wife:
  • Closeness—She wants you to be close.
  • Openness—She wants you to open up to her.
  • Understanding—Don’t try to fix her; just listen.
  • Peacemaking—She wants you to say, “I’m sorry.”
  • Loyalty—She needs to know you’re committed.
  • Esteem—She wants you to honor and cherish her.
To the women, he uses the acronym of C-H-A-I-R-S to remind them what their husbands needs. This is how you spell respect to your husband:
  • Conquest—Appreciate his desire to work and achieve.
  • Hierarchy—Appreciate his desire to protect and provide.
  • Authority—Appreciate his desire to serve and to lead.
  • Insight—Appreciate his desire to analyze and counsel.
  • Relationship—Appreciate his desire for shoulder-to-shoulder friendship.
  • Sexuality—Appreciate his desire for sexual intimacy.
The book is very balanced. Both partners are responsible for the health of the relationship and either one of them can take the initiative to break out of the crazy cycle. This book provides readers with both the motivation and the tools to do so.

Where did all the happy, single Christians go?

Reblogged from here

Speaking as a single person who desires to wait not for the “perfect one,” but for God’s choice—in His chosen time and in His chosen circumstances—I find myself often discouraged by our current American church culture.
On the one hand, we have a more loose approach which says: “Date around! There are plenty of fish in the sea! See what size fits!” On the other hand, we have a more conservative perspective which says: “Get married as your solution to loneliness, romantic fulfillment and all sexual desire!”
However, I personally have not found myself to be comfortable with either of these two extremes.
Recreational dating aligns with culture quite nicely, but places absolutely no faith in the God who provides for His sons and daughters.

When I read Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:33 and Paul’s in 1 Corinthians 7:27, I am reminded that we need not be anxious for our own interests. We have a Sovereign and Almighty God as our loving Father. He cares for us infinitely more than even the best earthly father. Plus, we have to remember that both Jesus and Paul were single, and they commended singleness (Matthew 19:12; 1 Corinthians 7:8).
In the same way, the conservative strategy to marry wisely often sacrifices the sweet, romantic gift we observe in the Song of Solomon (as fully realized in the relationship between Christ and His bride), which is dynamic and full of life… not mechanical and systematic.

I'm concerned that Christian singles are pursuing marriage with greater vigor than they intentionally pursue Christ. I believe this is probably fueled both by their own desires and the external pressures within the church. My exhortation is this: "NOTHING is wrong with you." Do not allow yourself to feel as if you are a problem to be fixed simply because you are currently single. We should be far more fearful of not pursuing Christ as our greatest treasure than we are of being single. Also, we should fear our tendancy to value anything including marriage (for the sake of getting married) over and above Christ and His kingdom.
Marriage is a very good gift. But, we must remember that it is a gift given and not for us to take. The single man or woman finds no less favor with God than those who are married.

Spend time with your Creator. Wrestle before the throne of your King. Make child-like requests to your Father. Is marriage in your heart? If so, then pray without ceasing and find your satisfaction in God while you TRUST God to provide for you. His promises are throughout Scripture. Stop the silly games of pursuing romance in relationships which so often fail and so seldom satisfy. Wait on the God who saved you and trust Him to provide for you a suitable mate with whom you can excitedly pursue your joy in Christ. The loose approach encourages you to compromise away all that is special and dear to you and your future spouse.
The conservative perspective urges you to rush into a calculated marriage before considering whether or not you are called to it by God.

Wait on God.
Wait on Christ.
Search the Scriptures and realize that waiting on God is one of the highest and sweetest disciplines of faith.
Nothing is too difficult for Him (Jeremiah 32:17).
You need only be still (Exodus 14:14).
“Wait for the LORD;
 be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!" (Psalm 27:14).
In conclusion, I would like to remind the Church that there are many in our number who will be called to singleness until death or Christ's Return. We must esteem their value to the Church.

Constant questions such as, "When are you getting married?" or "Are you interested in someone?" encourage singles to find their identity in marriage or family. Also, it makes our singles feel as if there is something wrong with them.
Help those in the Church who have been given the GIFT of singleness to take advantage of it as a means of undistracted service in the kingdom. Encourage them to believe the promise that the Lord will give them the desires of their heart (marriage or not) as they seek His kingdom and His righteousness.

Grace and Peace,
Sam

3 Things I Wish I Knew Before We Got Married

Reblogged from here ( by Tyler Ward )

I used to think I had my stuff together. Then I got married.
Marriage is great—but it rocked everything I knew. I quickly realized my basic goal in life, prior to getting married, was to simply remain undisturbed.
This “disruption” came suddenly and was disguised as a 5-foot-nothing Swedish-Filipino woman. When I decided I’d rather not live without her, I proceeded to ask her to marry me—that is, to officially invite someone who wasn’t me to be in my personal space for the rest of my life.
This decision introduced my most significant experiences and most challenging experiences—none of which I would trade for the world.
However, I wish I’d had a bit more insight on the front end of our marriage to help me navigate it all.
According to most research, more than 50 percent of people who say “I do” will not be sleeping in the same bed eight years from now. And though Scripture alludes to the fact that adultery and abuse may be reasons individuals might end a marriage, I’d be willing to bet that most challenges experienced in marriage are the result of unawareness. Most people—myself included—jump into marriage with suitcases full of misconceptions and bad theology, entirely unaware of the unique beauty and paradoxical intentions of marriage.
Although happiness is often a very real byproduct of a healthy relationship, marriage has a far more significant purpose in sight.
The following are three thoughts on marriage that friends and mentors have shared with me. I remind myself of them often in hopes of keeping this anomaly called marriage both enjoyable and healthy.

1. Marriage is not about living happily ever after.

Here’s the truth: I get annoyed at my wife. But this is more a reflection of me than her.
I’m intensely certain that nothing in life has ever made me more angry, frustrated or annoyed than my wife. Inevitably, just when I think I’ve given all I can possibly give, she somehow finds a way to ask for more.
The worst part of it all is that her demands aren’t unreasonable. One day she expects me to stay emotionally engaged. The next, she's looking for me to validate the way that she feels. The list goes on—but never ventures far from things she perfectly well deserves as a wife.
Unfortunately for her, deserving or not, her needs often compete with my self-focus. I know it shouldn’t be this way, but I am selfish and stubborn and, overall, human.
I once read a book that alluded to the idea that marriage is the fire of life—that somehow it’s designed to refine all our dysfunction and spur us into progressive wholeness. In this light, contrary to popular opinion, the goal of marriage is not happiness. And although happiness is often a very real byproduct of a healthy relationship, marriage has a far more significant purpose in sight. It is designed to pull dysfunction to the surface of our lives, set it on fire and help us grow.
When we’re willing to see it this way, then the points of friction in our marriages quickly become gifts that consistently invite us into a more whole and fulfilling experience of life.

2. The more you give to marriage, the more it gives back.

Over the past year, a few friends and I have had an open conversation about the highs and lows of marriage—specifically how to make the most of the high times and avoid the low ones. Along the way, we happened upon a derailing hypothesis that goes something like this: If one makes their husband or wife priority number one, all other areas of life benefit.
When we return marriage to its rightful place in our priorities, it can quickly turn into the greatest asset to every other layer of our lives.
It’s a disorienting claim. Disorienting, because it protests my deeper persuasion that success as an entrepreneur, or any professional, requires that career takes the throne of my priorities and remain there for, at the very least, a couple of years. However, seeing that my recent pattern of caring about work over marriage had produced little more than paying bills and a miserable wife, I figured giving the philosophy a test drive couldn’t hurt.
For 31 days, I intentionally put my wife first over everything else, and then I tracked how it worked. I created a metric for these purposes, to mark our relationship as priority, and then my effectiveness in all other areas of my life on the same scale, including career productivity and general quality of life.
To my surprise, a month later, I had a chart of data and a handful of ironic experiences to prove that the more you give to marriage, the more it gives back.
Notably, on the days my wife genuinely felt valued, I observed her advocating for me to invest deeply in to my work. She no longer saw our relationship and my career pursuits as competitors for my attention, and as she partnered with me in my career, I have experienced the benefits of having the closest person in my life champion me.
Of course, marriage requires sacrifice. And sometimes it will feel as if it takes and takes. However, when we return marriage to its rightful place in our priorities, it can quickly turn from something we have to maintain and sacrifice for into the greatest asset to every other layer of our lives.

3. Marriage can change the world.

John Medina, the author of Brain Rules and a Christian biologist, is often approached by men looking for the silver bullet of fathering. In one way or another, they all come around to asking, “What’s the most important thing I can do as a father?”
Medina's answer alludes to a surprising truth.
In my previously mentioned experiment, I measured the effect that making my marriage priority number one had on different areas of my life. One of those areas was my 16-month-old son’s behavior.
What I found in simply charting my observations was that the majority of the time, my child’s behavior was directly affected by the level of intention I invested in my marriage.
Re-enter John Medina, the Christian biologist. After years of biological research and several books on parenting conclusions, what is his answer to the question, “What’s the most important thing I can do as a father”?
“Go home and love your wife.”
Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam, the authors of Babywise, say it this way: “A healthy marriage creates an infused stability within the family and a haven of security for a child in their development process.” They go on to sum up their years of research by saying, “In the end, great marriages produce great parents.”
The point is that marriage has a higher goal than to make two people happy or even whole. Yes, the investment we make into our marriage pays dividends for us. But, concluded by Medina and his colleagues, the same investment also has significant implications for our family, our community and eventually our culture.
So men, women, the next time you find yourself dreaming about living significantly or succeeding in your career or being a better parent than yours were to you, do the world a favor: Go home and love your wife. Go home and and love your husband.

Chei pentru o căsnicie fericită

Reblogged from here

Geneza 2:24.
afsg5-1
Answer: Porunca lui Dumnezeu este clară.

Matei 19:5, 6.
Answer: Dragostea aproape că a dispărut din căminul vostru?

Filipeni 4:8.
Answer: O gândire greşită îţi poate distruge căsnicia.

Filipeni 4:7.
Answer: Aceasta este cea mai importantă regulă.

Romani 6:12, 13.
Answer: Exagerarea îţi va ruina căsnicia.

The Waiting

Reblogged from here

There is something beautiful about waking before the sun does. A quiet that is deeper than any other hour is to be found here, willing to bear with you as you dig deeper still into the Word, talking to the One who who created the stillness of this moment, the One who waits eagerly that you may find it. Hot tea is good company, snuggled down deep in a down comforter, reading the ancient words of Isaiah, knowing that the minutes are flying by too fast and soon, the day will force you out of bed, out of the stillness, but for now, tea and a prophet are the best of company.

Words fill the air, making it fat with promises. The veil seems to lift or at least, the assurance of much is firm. Not seeing what He does in the unseen is beautiful in the deep of now. Not seeing what He does in the unseen out of this moment, when the day has come in ushering with it all the world would have you believe, holding onto the deep and stillness of these hours before the sun has risen and holding fast unto these promises, this will be the test. Yet, the waiting is sweet in the moment of now. The knowing is strong. For the sweet aroma of all He is fills all we are when our days begin in the quiet with Him. Filled with the knowledge and fragrance of Him and carrying it with us into our day, this is what diminishes all the world's lies. This is what makes knowledge of what He is doing stronger and stronger still.

The waiting. The holding unto the facts of how He has been faithful before in our moments. Clinging to a promise that He will above all else come through for all our moments in the future, despite what doubts scream in the logic of day. To wait upon your God is not doing nothing, but indeed to wait upon Him is to do everything. Hard? Yes. Absolutely. Worth it? More than you can imagine. For we are so easily satisfied with stones when He would give us rubies. Waiting will test the tensile strength of courage that He is working in our souls. Waiting requires being deaf to words said like, "I would just hate to see you miss your chance." As if we can "miss a chance" as if our lives will suddenly be irrevocably off course if we don't steer the ship for a while, for obviously He cannot steer our ships without a little help from our hands! No! He needs neither our help to guide nor will He allow a chance to be missed if we are surrendered to Him. It's as ridiculous as believing the sun will not rise without our help this morning. For if our God can raise the sun each morning in the sky, He is more than capable of bringing about His most perfect plan in our lives if we're willing to wait on Him.

Take heart, the wait is creating a dependance on your God, a beautiful relationship and trust with Jesus, that will only serve to prepare and equip you for all He would have you do in the future. Is it hard? Good. For that which is the hardest is what works the deepest of changes in our lives.

For now, the waiting is what I am called to. To gaze into His eyes, fixing my eyes no where else but on His, knowing with perfect assurance that He is faithful, is all I need do. Nothing more or less than this. The waiting is everything.

Light is beginning to break over the mountains. The hazy blue of morning whispers of the day following, of life that is soon to be met, work needing to be accomplished, people seen, and words spoken. But, the sweetness of time spent in these deepest of hours has settled into my soul, never long enough, and will go with me into the day. And this time will change who I am in this day. For meeting with Him before the day begins changes everything. Always.

"'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul. Therefore I have hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. It is good that he waits silently for the salvation of the Lord."
-Lamentations 3:24-26

What To Look For In A Spouse

Reblogged from here

Things you ought to look for in a godly spouse by Alistair Begg
  1. The man should be committed to growing in his relationship with the Lord.  Do not take on a fellow as a discipleship project.
  2. An individual of obvious integrity. If he cheats on the golf course, he has the potential of cheating anywhere. You need a husband who is honest to the core.
  3. Lead BOLDLY. A man who can think for himself, weighs option, make good decision and able to discern. An attitude of servanthood.
  4. Displays the ability to love sacrificially. How does he treat his mom? Aunt?  Observe the way he treats strangers and children, etc.
  5. Husband should be able to laugh heartily. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
  6. Husband should model genuine humility. Keep focus on others. Others first. Him last.
Do not be unequally yoked. That means to be unable to pull together, two opposite goals, two incompatible masters to serve, and two radically interpretations of life.
Unbelief allied with belief in Jesus, there can be no real intimacy in matters that really counts.
Two cannot pull together because they  truly are not together.

You can cry now because you’ve lost him or you can cry later because you’ve got him.

Waiting – Keys To Experiencing His Best

Reblogged from here

1. While we wait He restores us, heals us, sustains us, comforts us and loves us.

We don’t see it because our human flesh wants to see everything in the natural but if you take a moment to sit still and rest in His presence and Shhh! No words!  Let His presence fill you with hope, joy, peace and love. Does this not heal us? Empower us? Sustain us as while we’re waiting? Yes it does! Remember to be still when you are feeling anxious or impatient.
For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. Hab. 2:3
Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. -Psalm 33:20
Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord. -Psalm 27:14

2. Why do we have to wait?
  • Trust – Teaches us to fully rely/trust Him.
  • Humility – Prideful people like to move ahead of God and be in full control. They also worry too much about what other thinks. Humble people wait on God and demonstrate trust.
  • Purify- It purifies us from greed, instant gratification, and worldly desires.. when in fact we need to be living a life of integrity and holiness keeping our eyes on the Lord.
  • Protection – There are times when God will make us wait if He knows there will be difficulties especially when we move ahead of Him. Patiently waiting on the Lord will protect us from unforeseen circumstances. Be wise and keep this in mind.
Gentle Reminder: Don’t get ahead of Him with your own agenda and solutions. Instead you wait on Him and for His direction. Do you want His best or second best and miss out on what He had for you?  Resting in the Lord is not passive but active.
As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me and my God will certainly hear me. Micah 7:7

3. What happens if we choose not to wait on the Lord?
  • You miss out on God’s best
  • You’re out of His will
  • You’ll get second best and end up being disappointed.
  • Disobeying God has consequences. You may experience hurt, painful circumstances, disaster,  suffering,  grief, and much, much more.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. -Isa. 55:8-9

My prayer is that you wait patiently on the Lord and reap the rewards. Don’t get ahead and miss out on God’s perfect will for your life.
No one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for the one who waits for Him. Isaiah 64:4

Dragoste până ce moartea îi va despărţi

Reblogged from here
